Project management is very important if you want your project to be successful. Given the limitations in terms of budget and time, you would need a good project manager who will be efficient in project management. Otherwise, there would be a lot of wastage in terms of time and budget as well. Without proper project management you will not be able to finish the project in time. Your budget would not even be enough to finish the project.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Project Manger

In general, a project manager does the planning, executing and closing of the project. And so all in all, he is in charge of the whole project management. To find a good project manager, you should find someone specially trained in project management. He would have great skills in planning and executing projects.

Projects could differ in terms of types and categories. And so the kind of project management required from the project manager could differ too. For instance, projects could be architectural, construction, software and other different tasks. In project management, the project manager is basically the leader. It is his task to ensure that the whole project is completed given the set budget and time limit. To be able to do so, all tasks should be properly organized and all crew members should be coordinated too.

In effect, the project manager represents his clients. Instead of the clients, project management is done by the project manager. And so the clients no longer have to pay close attention and supervise the daily happenings of the project. But again what the project manager really does is coordinate everything and make sure everyone is doing their job. For example, the job of the project manager in a hotel construction project is to direct the tasks done by architects, furniture and fitting designers, building contractors and electrical work engineers.

Qualities Required from a Project Manager

In order to do the project management efficiently, the project manager should have good people relations skills. More than telling the crew what to do, the project manager should have a good relationship with them for them to follow the instructions well and with positive attitude. Even if they don’t agree with the project manager, they would be able to talk it out instead of creating problems in the project. The project manager should also be able to solve problems in the project too though.

Leadership is an important quality in a project manager. Since he would have to supervise and direct everybody involved in the project, he must hold respect from the crew and everyone. This is the only way he would be able to make them move as you wish them to. But while doing so, he should always maintain a positive and happy atmosphere in the project site. He should also be understanding to his crew as well.

And good communication skills are also important especially since he would be giving instructions. Otherwise, his subordinates would not be able to understand his instructions. And since projects usually have a time limit, the project manager should be able to handle pressure quite well too.
